Turtle Spotter Program: “It’s in Our Hands”

In 2004, a collaborative committee including the Tortuguero community, Tortuguero National Park, Sea Turtle Conservancy, and local hotels established the Turtle Spotter Program. This initiative helps protect endangered sea turtles by limiting human impact:

Turtle Trackers: Specially trained professionals search for nesting turtles.
Certified Guides: Lead visitors directly to the nesting site once a turtle is found.

This approach ensures a sustainable and respectful interaction with these incredible animals, while preserving the delicate balance of their nesting environment.
